Using a physical USB security key for Google 2FA  (two factor authentication)

  • First step– plug the USB Security key (dongle) into your laptop.
  • Open your Google Chrome browser and go to the Google.com webpage.
  • Login to your school Google-Gmail account.  ( @staff.goshenschools.org) 
  • Click on the round icon in the top right corner that represents your account.
  • Click on “Manage your Google Account
  • In the left side column click on “Security”
  • Scroll down to find “How you sign in to Google
  • Click on “Security keys
  • You will need to login with your current password.
  • Click on “Add security key
  • Click OK and OK
  • You will be prompted to touch your security key, this means touch the gold disk finger sensor or press the button.  
  • You will be prompted to name it.  A good name might be “GCS”.
  • Click Next and Next.  You are done with setup, you can close this Google Chrome settings window.
