Microsoft Display Adapter setup

How to set up a Microsoft Display Adapter.    Jan 12, 2023         

Steps: 

  1. Plug USB end of adapter into your laptop  Wait a few seconds

  2. Click Windows key + K key   Wait for list to display. 
  3. Look for “WindowsDIsplayAdapter_1879” and double click to connect to it.  You will see a black and white bar along the top center edge of your screen.

  4. Open the “Windows Display Adapter” app that you already installed from the Windows App store.

  5. Rename the device to (Blg)_rm_ (room number) Example; “ GHS_rm_1710 ”

  6. Connect to GCSiPad2 and put in password.   Make sure it connects.  

  7. Close the App window and then click the bar at the top and click disconnect.  

  8. Click Windows key + K key to re-connect and check that the new name was saved (no longer the generic name of “WindowsDIsplayAdapter_1879”.  Setup is done.  

 

Note – If you clicked on the pushpin and clicked on Unpin this small black and white bar is hidden unless you hover the mouse/curser in the top middle edge area.


Client setup;   No need to install the software on the teacher laptop. 

1. Plug into projector with both HDMI and USB plugs .  

2. Have the teacher click Windows + K to show the list and click to select the desired adapter from the list.   

3. You might want to remind them they can click  the Fn key + the F8 key to quickly toggle duplicate or extend.  Also might want to show them they can right click on the desktop and click on Display Settings to get to the area where they can choose to duplicate or extend certain screens and also their position to make it easy to move their mouse from one screen to the next.
