Windows routinely has updates that need to be applied for quality of life or security updates. In this guide you will find directions on making sure your Windows installation us up to date.
This guide is for Windows 10. Goshen Community Schools does not recommend updating your system to Windows 11 at this time.
There are multiple ways to get to Windows Updates. Either by searching "update" in the windows search bar and clicking "Check for Updates" or by opening Settings->Updates & Security.
Instructions for updating Windows
Step 1: Search for updates
- Search for the word "updates" in your windows search bar and then click the "Check for updates" at the top of the list.
Step 2: Check for Updates
- Click the check for updates button in the Windows Update setting panel.
Step 3(Optional): Error Encountered
- If you receive the message "Error Encountered" click the "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update" located beneath the "Retry" button
Step 4: Install Updates
- Depending on how out of date your system is there might be multiple or few updates. Click Install on any updates that are found. If you have "Optional quality updates available" please feel free to Download and install them.
Step : Reboot & Repeat
- Wait for all the updates to install and then restart your computer
- Repeat Steps 1-5 until all updates are applied.

Step 1(Optional): Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update ,
- Click on the Windows Icon(Start) in the lower left corner of the screen. Then click on Settings.
- Then click on "Updates and Security" at the bottom of the settings list.
